How to Make Gluten Free Orange Chicken that the Kids Will Love

This is a favorite meal in our house! The sauce is sweet and tangy and can be put on chicken like we did, tofu, or any protein you prefer.

I love taking something the kids love, like orange juice, and turning it into something different! They are more willing to try it because they know how much they enjoy the juice. We served it with actual oranges too so they can see if they can taste the flavor in the sauce!

Orange Juice Sauce

  • 1 tsp crushed fresh ginger

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos ( or GF soy sauce )

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup orange juice

  • 1/2 cup white vinegar

  • 4 tbsp cornstarch

  • 4 tbsp water

In a saucepan, add all of the ingredients except for the cornstarch and water. Whisk it together and put over medium heat. Continue whisking until the sugar is dissolved. While it is cooking, make a slurry by mixing the cornstarch and water together in a small bowl.

Once the sugar is dissolved, add the cornstarch slurry to the pan and continue whisking. Cook until it starts to thicken and forms a nice sauce. Coat your protein in the sauce and it’s ready to serve!

Kids not into sauce on their food? Skip that step and instead allow them to dip it! They can control the amount that way and might be more willing to try it.
