How often do you serve salmon to your family? If you want to do it more you need to try these 5 simple ideas! The first part is to start with Kvaroy Arctic salmon. This family owned farm on Kvaroy Island in the Arctic Circle ethically raises their salmon using a sustainable fish feed. There are no hormones or antibiotics, just delicious fish packed with omega-3s!
With a house full of picky eaters, I know that fish may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you're thinking about what's for dinner but adding in sustainable fish and other blue foods ( foods that come from the ocean or waterways ) to your family meals can provide a lot of great nutrients while supporting healthy oceans and the planet through these food choices that have a lower carbon footprint!
It can take many exposures to get curious kids excited about new food but don't forget, it doesn't have to be cooked in a traditional filet way for it to count as an exposure! That's why I love Kvaroy Arctic, their wide selection of salmon products make trying salmon different ways so easy! Bonus, it's all gluten free!! From filets already on their baking tray to burgers and dogs ( burgers and dogs both have your weekly recommended amount of omega-3s! ), they have something for everyone to get excited about! I rounded up my top 5 favorite ways you can try serving salmon.
1. Baked: This is the most traditional way to make salmon. Add a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and you have a delicious meal! It can be something that looks really different for picky eaters so if you start with this way and they aren't interested, keep trying!
2. Breaded: This is my favorite way to eat salmon! I have an Easy Crusted Salmon recipe that turns out perfect every time. It's flavorful and flaky and the breading on the outside of this dish makes it a little more approachable for curious eaters who prefer things that look familiar.
Easy Crusted Salmon Recipe
2 Kvaroy Arctic Salmon Filets, frozen
6 Tablespoons mayonnaise
Juice of half a lemon
1 clove of garlic, finely minced
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 cup powdered parmesan cheese
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
Preheat the oven to 425F. Mix together the mayo, lemon, and garlic. Set aside and in another bowl mix together the bread crumbs, cheese, and melted butter. Use a spoon to spread the mayo mixture on top of the salmon filets making sure to coat all sides. Next, sprinkle the bread crumb mixture on top making sure to fully cover it as well.
Wrap foil around the pan and seal up. Bake covered for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake again for 25 minutes or until it reaches an internal temp of 145F. Serve immediately.
3. Burgers: If your kid loves burgers this is a great way to try salmon! Top it with their favorites and you've got something new but similar. These burgers have the texture of a regular burger and not the flakiness of a filet. They have a more subtle salmon flavor. Available in four flavors: Original Recipe, Original & Cheese, Jalapeño & Cheese, and Chile & Cheese.
4. Salmon dogs: There's something nostalgic about a hot dog and Kvaroy Arctic takes it up a notch by making them with salmon! They don't have a strong salmon flavor but feels like eating a regular hot dog. Available in four flavors: Original Recipe, Original & Cheese, Jalapeño & Cheese, and Chile & Cheese.
5: One bite: If your picky eater is overwhelmed by a full serving of food, try simple serving one single bite. Taking one bite can seem a lot easier than a whole piece of new food.
